Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

In Australia 1 in 20 people with have Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). ADHD is a developmental disorder that usually presents itself in early childhood. There are three types of ADHD; these include

Inattentive, which may present as someone being is easily distracted. This may include missing details, making careless mistakes, experiencing difficulty remaining focused or organizing tasks, not being able to follow through on instructions or losing things.

Hyperactive-impulsive, this may present itself as someone that experiences symptoms of impulsivity and hyperactivity; this may include for example interrupting conversations or other activities, fidgeting, feeling that they can’t sit still, or experiencing difficulty waiting their turn, speaking non-stop.

Combined, a person may experience a mixture of inattentive, hyperactivity and impulsivity.

These symptoms are to provide an example and are not an exhaustive list, however these symptoms when present may cause significant distress and disruption in relationships, school and work.
